Communication Coaches Appreciate From Parent/Guardians
- Schedule Conflicts: Coaches like to know ahead of time when students have conflicts that will prevent them from being at a practice or game. Parents should inform the coach as soon as possible when their child is going to be absent or late to a practice or game. Parents should contact the Athletic Dept. office at 994-2075 and leave a message if they are unable to get hold of the coach directly.
- Emotional Stressors: Coaches appreciate knowing when unusual events are happening in an athlete’s life that are causing additional stress. Parents should initiate contact with the coach to provide insight into changes in their child’s emotional state.
- Volunteers: Coaches need help with many aspects of managing the program (e.g., fundraisers, work projects, team dinners, awards, banquet) and are always glad to hear from parents who have ideas and are willing to work for the team. Parents should contact the coach for volunteer opportunities.
- Forthrightness: Coaches like to hear about parental concerns directly, not third hand, and before a situation has escalated. Every coach wants to try to resolve a conflict before it is taken to the Athletic Director, Principal, or higher authority.
