TO PLAY OR NOT TO PLAY?
Only parents and guardians know the answer to this question as it applies to their student, but keep in mind what the data show: Ninth grade students here at Huron and other places tend to get better grades if they:
Historically here at Huron, ninth graders who play a sport during their first marking period, as a group, get higher grades with fewer absences on their first report card than those who don’t, and tend to maintain their grades for the rest of the year. Students who participate in sports tend to get good grades and think school is important. Moreover, they have a powerful positive influence on other students. Playing a sport doesn’t come with a guarantee but it does seem to help kids succeed in school! |
