Huron Honors Scholar Athletes for 2006!

Huron High School has a tradition of honoring its Scholar Athletes in an annual award ceremony that is sponsored by the Booster Club.   This year's ceremony was held in the Paul K. Meyers Auditorium on March 9, 2006.

The School honored 640 students for 2005-06, over 43% of our athletes, at this year's program.

Huron Principal, Dr. Arthur Williams provided a resounding acknowledgement of the effort required to maintain a balance of accomplishment in sports and academics.

The student athlete speaker was senior varsity tennis athlete, Kyla Rowe.   Kyla touched hearts of fellow Rats during her entertaining Student address.

The program featured keynote speaker Fred Jackson, Running Backs/Associate Head Coach, UM Football.   Fred provided a formula for winning, identifying objectives and staying focused.

Awards were presented to the athletes with congratulations offered by Dr. Williams, William Blakemore; Huron Athletic Director, Waleed Samaha: School Social Worker and Men's Head Basketall Coach, Helen Miller; Booster Club President and Fred Jackson.

Bill Blakemore concluded the program with congratulations to all Huron Scholar Athletes!

The standing room only crowd then moved to the Media Center for a reception with refreshments and snacks.

Scholar-athletes from the second semester 2004-05 (winter and spring sport seasons) and from the first semester 2005-06 school year (fall and winter sport seasons) were honored.

In order to qualify for a Scholar Athlete award, a student must maintain a 3.2 grade point average during the semester of participation and must participate (and finish the season in good standing) in at least one of the Huron High School sports offered at any level (ninth grade, junior varsity or varsity).

The current enrollment at Huron High School is 2,174 students.   Over the last two semesters, 1,470 student names appeared on the team rosters in 35 sports.
