STUDENT

Step 1: Complete the RELEASE OF INFORMATION form from the Senior registration packet. Turn in at registration or to the Records Office This form must be turned in before a transript is sent to any institution. It is your best interest to submit college applications before October 31st. Get RELEASE OF INFORMATION form from the Career Resource Center. This form must be turned in before transcript is sent to any institution.

Step 2: Turn in SENIOR PROFILE, PARENT BRAG sheet, "release of test scores" form and Activity List (Resume). The test score release form MUST be signed by you and your parents.

Step 3: At least 2-3 weeks ahead as teachers, counselors, coaches etc. for recommendations, if necessary. SENIOR PROFILE, PARENT BRAG sheet, "release of test scores" form and Activity List (Resume). The test score release form MUST be signed by you and your parents.

Step 4: Complete application THOROUGHLY and neatly in blue or black ink or typed. Some applications are on line and must be sent electronically. SIGN IN INK and make a few copies.

Step 6: Turn into the Records Office the completed application and the signed release of information form. Each application will cost $1.00 handling fee for each additional application. Turn in a stamped, addressed envelope large enough to hold your application when you submit your application to the records office.

Step 7: If you are applying "ONLINE" you must also submit a "Online" College Application Form to the Records Office (to send transcripts and test scores) and pay $1.00 handling fee. Turn in a stamped, addressed envelope large enough to hold your application when you submit your application to the records office.

Step 8: If your college requires scores directly from ACT / SAT YOU are responsible to arrange for TEST SCORES to be sent DIRECTLY from ACT, SAT to your prospective colleges. Call the college to verify.

Step 9: Plan on 2-3 weeks to process an application. Your application is routed to the records office, counselor, class principal, where transcripts, test scores, letters of recommendation, and signatures are provided as needed. Record office then mails completed applications.

Step 10: Submit a self-addressed stamped postcard if you need to know when application was mailed from Huron. DO NOT CALL THE RECORDS OFFICE.

Step 11: Most applications will leave Huron within 15 working days of receipt in Records Office. Because of the volume of applications received in November, your applications must be turned in by NOVEMBER 10, 2006 if you want them mailed before winter break. PLAN AHEAD to meet application deadlines.

TIPS

1. Be sure to sign and date the application before turning it in.

2. It may be 5 - 10 days before being mailed from Huron, so allow ample time prior to deadlines.

3. If there is a deadline, make sure you attach a note, indicating due date.

4. If teacher recommendations are required, ask the teacher if they are willing to write a letter on your behalf and allow time for those letters to be written. Usually, letters are sent separately. Provide stamped, addressed envelopes.

5. Teachers and counselors appreciate a resume or a list of your activities, interests and accomplishments to aid them in writing the recommendation.

6. It is the responsibility of the student to request official ACT or SAT scores be sent to the college(s).
