Other Music Classes


Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Guitar
These courses include the study of the rudiments of guitar through class and individual instruction. As students progress through the levels they learn to read music and those entering the advanced class should have good music reading skills and excellent right and left hand dexterity in first position chords and scales.

 

Piano

This course is designed for the students who (1) wish to learn to read music and play the piano or (2) wish to continue previous study of the piano. Students at all levels of performance skills may enroll. Emphasis will be placed on improving performance skills and reading music. Each student will receive individual coaching. Time for practice will be a part of the course design.

 

Music Theory and Technology

This course consists of the thorough study of the fundamentals of music (scales, intervals, chords, and four part harmonic writing) through the eye, ear, and keyboard. Some study of musical form, music analysis and music history may be included.

 

The course continues second semester where it puts emphasis on four-part harmonic writing, analysis, and beginning composition. Included is the study of jazz and popular music. Independent study activities, such as conducting, arranging, and more advanced composition may be encouraged.
