The PSAT measures verbal, writing and mathematical reasoning abilities on a scale of 20 (low) to 80 (high). It is a practice test for the SAT I (math and verbal) and the SAT II (writing) and may help the student identify strengths and weaknesses.
Students may register in mid-September at the Main Office for the PSAT. They will receive a practice booklet when they register. Students can take the PSAT in October of their ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade year, and the results are usually returned near the December holiday break. The students receive both a score report with corrected answers and their test booklet.
At http://www.testprep.com, students can use their PSAT results to gain additional study tools for the SAT.
We encourage eleventh graders to take the PSAT because this is the only year the test score is used as the qualifying mark for the National Merit Scholarship Competition.
